The Mavs have had “exploratory conversations” with both Michigan and Duke to determine if Dusty May and Jon Scheyer have any interest in the vacant coaching job, Marc Stein reports in his Substack.

Remains to be seen whether either would be interested, and the more realistic option is still going the NBA route for the new coach, Stein says.

Nothing against Stein who has a long history doing the job.  I never thought of him as a click bait guy and he puts in the work.  Although at this point, I am not really putting much stock in anything he says about the Mavs.  It feels like everyone is guessing now.   Someone will guess right but I don't put much stock into anyone now.

BTW off topic, but Masai may or may not win big here.  Time will tell.  Although over the past few weeks I have heard several executives interviewed from around the league.  I come away impressed with almost all of them.  How smart they are.  How strategic they are.   Patient when they need to be, aggressive when they need to be.   There are just so many smart, hard working executives.   On the other hand, I hear Cuban interviewed and you quickly realize how disadvantaged the Mavs have been compared to other teams.   The 2011 roster building was masterful.  Since then it has been mistake after mistake.   It is sort of impressive they have been pretty good with all the mistakes.  I guess hitting a franchise guy can hide a lot of things.    Cuban is none of the things I explained earlier.    Not only were they not good, there was a certain arrogance to them that also led to a lot of pissed off endings.    I am just so glad that era is behind us.  Whether we win again is another story.
