Hiring someone outside the organization to lead the hunt for a new GM, seems like logical plan.  I just don't know how you can really try to fill this position internal and I like the approach the Dolphins are doing by having Troy Aikman involved.  I don't see how the owners would want Cuban involved after is recent comments and Kidd who is rumored to be interested in the job can't be involved and that goes for the Co GMs.  I wonder if they could hire Bob Myers who appears to not want the job or someone else like him to look for possible candidates and then to interview them and finally forward a ranked list to the owners for their review and to deal with the contract.  
I would want the outside person to have detailed talks on how the new GM sees the Mavs now as an offense and defense, the players and discuss if they feel which players fit new candidates vision and get his feel on if it would work with Kidd coaching style.  I would want them to give a general time line on where they see the team going and how he is going to make it happen.  I do wonder if they will fudge on their thoughts on Kidd and his get  a shot in 8 seconds and the need for lots of 3s and very little player movement and plays and really no effort to feed a player in the lane as an option other than a lob pass.
Mavs need to be ready before draft night on what direction the Mavs will head and a plan or plans in place for trades and movement in the weeks too follow, if not the 90's Mavs will be back.
