In a way, it was in the cards. We had moved down so often in the draft, I think the odds would eventually favor a move in the other direction.

Odds don't really work that way.  I'm highly skeptical the NBA manipulates the draft, but there have been enough incidents (like the Mavs getting first after the Luka debacle) that I get the sentiment.
