A couple of bench players that were not contributing up to their contract value are gone. Eliminated apron anxieties and opened cap space for future dealing. A couple of the incoming players may be worth keeping into next year, at reasonable prices. The next step is to get any management changes completed before the draft and before FA starts. Which likely means getting the GM question answered.
Apart from the pipe-dream of luring Presti away from the basketball powerhouse he built in OKC, I'd really like to see Lindsey brought back to run the team.
He's currently SVP for Basketball Operations in Detroit, reporting to President of BBO, Trajan Langdon. My perception is that title is (maybe?) loftier than a GM position. Is there an equivalence available in the DAL management team?
Governor = Dumont
CEO = Welts
President = Casson
CFO = Wojciechowski
COO = Jahner
CSO = Fauss
CME = Diaz
SVP HR = LaCour
Looks like there would be an opportunity to create a SVP BBO, reporting to Welts, if they wanted to and still keep Finley and/or Riccardi in GM roles, reporting to SVP BBO, to help develop their management skills for future needs. Sort of a lateral move for Lindsey, but with an opportunity to really show how he (Lindsey) can build a contender and maybe for bigger bucks than in DTW. At least he won't have to pay income tax.
Not saying with 100% confidence that I am correct, but off the top of my head, to get out of an existing contract without permission from Detroit, he would have to be given a promotion in title. So I am under the impression he would have to be given a title>VP. So I would think they go back to a P-BO title if indeed Lindsey is your guy, and I would be ecstatic for that to be the case IF you can't get Presti. I would rate Lindsey in the top 5 options to pursue at this point.
