I also don't think Cuban would want a role that was precisely what he had two years ago. He might very well get controlling interest in the team, but that doesn't mean we just time-travel back a few years. There was a lot to be learned from the hiring and firing of Nico, the feelings of the Dallas fan-base, and a host of things he did poorly while in control. He may have a streak of narcissim, but he's not stupid. I feel confident he'll make sure there's an appropriate GM structure to the organization (should all this come to fruition).
It will be interesting to see if the ownership group is comprised of locals who love the team of just a bunch of real estate bro's. This has always been a passion project for Cuban and as time went by it was one he wasn't able to afford to the same level as the big boys. Cashing out while maintaining control probably seemed like an ideal situation...except for the actual "control" part.
Will he put cash back into the deal? Or, try to control the team as Governor while maintaining his minority interest.
If you are a GM candidate, how anxious are you to enter this circus while still unresolved? If you are a good experienced GM, do you want to work for Cuban given his history of controlling everything? What about the current co-GM's? What have conversations been like between them and Cuban as they tried to report up to Dumond while at the same time dealing with the smartest man in the room? None of this feels like a path to an Elite GM.
