TRADE: Davis, Hardy, DLO, Exum to WAS | Middleton, filler, 2 FRPs, 3 SRPs to DAL

Can't believe the Mavs actually pulled off an out of nowhere trade and one that I'm not that mad about.

Maybe it's just I was tired of the AD experience. Maybe it was what AD represented (through no fault of his own). He was an incredibly serviceable player, and in another universe I would've loved to have him as a 3rd option. But for now I'm happy he's gone.

Plus, the Mavs got off some real bad salary here. Hardy+DLo was essentially 12 mil of dead space next season. Exum is well... Exum. And they tacked those guys onto AD and still got back multiple picks. Sure the 2 FRPs aren't the highest of quality, but they are something. The 2nds are a bit more intriguing, especially that 2029 HOU one.

Now that the Mavs can almost essentially absorb a max contract in the summer, I wonder what guy is going to get shipped off next from another team looking for relief. There was a rumor earlier in the day that the Cavs were interested in AD and perhaps even floated Mobley. Could CLE revisit that come summer time if this core fails again and the Mavs could absorb Mobley and tack on a guy like Naji in the deal?

Just brainstorming here.

Anyways. Goodbye AD. It was a stressful 29 games.


EDIT: Wrote all of this and didn't even focus on the guys WAS was sending. I suppose that is telling. Out of everyone, Middleton is obviously the best player but he's past his prime. If he does stay and isn't bought out, I'm curious to see how much he has left in the tank. Bagley is one foot out of the league, much like DLo, but he is a warm body and is someone that can play if Gafford needs to sit for an extended period (which he should). Johnson and Branham I can't say much about truthfully. I think they were throw ins for roster compliance. I wouldn't be shocked if either of them become fun obscure Mavs trivia like Ricky Ledo.
