I agree that numbers in a vacuum don't tell the whole story, especially when you are just looking at counting stats (which is what I think was originally posted). But my point was that taking a deeper dive on this kid, he looks like he may be the real deal. He is apparently an elite point of attack defender, a quality PG and so far a good shooter. He already showed signes of being a good backup PG last season, and he is taking it to another level this season. It has been a small sample so far, but this is exactly the kind of player Mavs should be targeting. He has been one of the few good things going for the Bucks and I can't imagine they have any interest in trading him, so it probably doesn't matter anyways.
In regards to my original argument, I'd like to add that my feelings about a 1st round pick are tied to the Lakers plus Doncic. What I mean is that if we were talking about the Washington Wizards 2029 1st round pick, I'm not sure I would have the same opionion.
Lebron will be gone, and the Lakers FO is going to be busy filling out Doncic's Lakers (still a fairly young Doncic) with the appropriate teammates just as our Mavs did. I have a hard time imagining the pick as anything but a low 1st round pick.
I get Roy Tarpley's opinion that it's just hard to give up out 1st round picks when we've been so busy getting rid of them. But I believe the actual chances of a low 1st vs Rollins ( and what he brings and what the Mavs need) is weighted towards Rollins.
