Sometimes it takes the form of a big capital gain, that dwarfs whatever operating losses a company sustains in the short or medium term.
So perhaps a better question is: “how do the new owners perceive value?”
If he is thinking like a businessman, then there is almost no chance he pays a massive repeater tax as it makes no business sense. Cuban ran the team like a fan until he got his ring, and then he ran it like a businessman and the money dried up.
