It's been discussed 'round here about getting the Mavs under the luxury tax while involved with various teams. Here's a deadline 5 teamer:
Mavs get Jimmy Butler's dirty dead body, Nic Claxton, Risacher, Kennard, Mathurin Quinton Post,, GS' 2026 unprotected 1st GS' 2028 unprotected1st, , the better swap of GS' 2029 1st following all other Dallas swaps and, the NOPElicans 2026 1st from Atlanta
Warriors get Porzingis, Klay, Naji, Christie, Danny Wolf and two future 2nds (one each from Brooklyn and Indiana)
Hawks get AD, DeLo, Cam Thomas, Trace Jackson-Davis and Exum
Nets get Kuminga, Caleb Martin and Hardy, and the Mavs' 2028 1st following the OKC swap
Pacers get Gafford
By taking on Butler and trading away AD and very good rotation pieces on undervalued contracts, the Mavs load up on draft assets.
GS does give up future assets, but considering they are giving up physically (Butler) and mentally (Kuminga)
"damaged goods", the picks are worth it to build a complete unit around Steph for his last 2-3 seasons. It's very possible that only one of the 1sts land higher than the 20s and that would be a swap.
The Hawks get AD and backcourt help for a run in the East.
The Pacers get the center
In the end, this tears down much of the Mavs' current tradeable assets and.It fully steers the team into a tank and positions it with three 1sts. With 3 1sts and Cooper, next year will be marketed as "Team: Barely Legal".
Kyrie, Nembhard
Peterson, Mathurin
Flagg
Boozer, PJ
Claxton, Lively
