Or the reason Rich Paul AND the Mavericks writers pushed the Atlanta angle so hard was that Atlanta is the only team that is even entertaining the absurd idea to extend AD right now. This idea that there are 30 teams lining up to extend AD is crazy. I´d take a bet half the league would not acquire him for expiring contacts with a full MLE extension promise.
And of course there will be 6-7 interested teams that are willing to trade for AD, but they want to give you packages like Poeltl + Quickley, who are even more injured than AD and have even longer contracts. If I told you the Mavs can acquire an injury prone top 30 player on a two year contract or keep one (semi) retired player on a four year contract and a top 150ish player on a three year contract, I would pick AD, too. That´s a no brainer. Milwaukee will give you Kuzma and Portis. Yay. They can´t even be starters here, cause we have Flagg, Washington, Marshall and possibly another drafted forward.
