It's better street clothes than a crap return, our window is closed for next 3/4 years so who cares.
Except maybe Dumont doesn't want to pay the tax (especially after Nico gifted him with the repeater tax via the stupid Grimes trade) and he burns assets to get under it. Its more than just paying tax, if they shed enough cap they can make room for the full MLE. That has value. They signed Naji to under the full MLE and he is probably worth a first now.
I don't get this mindset that it will take a few years to rebuild so we might as well ride it out with AD. After this upcoming draft (that will probably be improved by trading AD) the Mavs won't get a lot of good assets. The future picks will probably not be good due to swaps and when they do start owning their own picks Flagg will in his prime. Do we expect those to be any good? We are talking about a good young player who might be worth a non lottery first, a decent first round pick (right on the edge of the lottery) and massive salary relief that could arguably be valued as a late first. It would be a disappointing haul for AD (especially given what we paid for him) but it would literally jump start the rebuild by 3 years compared to the alternative.
