A Few Thoughts on Mavs 118, Wizards 119

I rewatched the last possession a few times and knowing what they wanted to do I think THJ screwed up. DFS gets screened and THJ should have picked up Beal but he is late and out of position. Wright is the last line on defense but he is afraid to foul and doesn´t even try to contest the layup.
Yup. I would delegate the blame on 1. THJ (by a wide margin) then 2. Delon

Unfortunately, we cannot hear any audio on the court but I am guessing THJ didn't communicate with DFS on the incoming screen, DFS had no clue it was coming and got wrecked. Communication is probably the #1 proponent in an effective defense.

IMO, the pick was a borderline, moving screen but refs won't ever call it in that situation.

So then it's up to THJ to switch but he gets caught up in quicksand, opening the lane for Beal to make the catch.

If you watch the replay, the ball hangs in the air for a decent amount of time. I think if Delon was more aggressive, he could have got his hands on the ball or at the very least get into better position to contest the shot. But he also got caught up in quicksand and softened his defense.

This was our "best" defensive line-up and we give up that cupcake of a layup. Maybe this is an area MKG can make his mark instead of THJ or Delon.
