What he is NOT, is the type of player you can build an offense around. We've know the end of that movie since back when it was called "New Orleans: Rise of the Pelicans."

I think the fact that he's only played like 14 games since coming here is a valid thing to be upset about. I don't really understand why the very abnormal case of him reporting out of shape is such a big deal since we factually know it's due to the weird eye injury he had, and not on laziness or unprofessionalism, but I do get the irony of that in regards to the trade, sure. I think for some (many?) fans, it's just too much to ask for them to separate their emotions about the trade from their level of investment into AD as a Maverick. 

But honestly, what I really think is that a ton of casual fans (mostly not from this board) expected AD to be a dominant offensive player, and we should never have expected that. He's not a shooter. He's not a low post guy, really. He's not a 1-on-1 guy, even in his spots, like Dirk was. He can be a dominant finisher of plays, and teams for sure have to know where he is when they're defending, but without a dominant offensive player for him to compliment, it's tough to like AD on offense.

I agree with every bit of that. 

I may fall into some level of that "casual fan" these days, AND also, the fan who can't see very far past how unfair the trade has felt. Interestingly, because I was concerned about Luka being OK with being out of shape, the initial blow to me personally, when the trade happened, was a dead, kinda, "go figures" reaction. But then, every day after that, as I thought more about it, I got more and more upset about the trade. So, I'll own this: My attitude towards AD absolutely has been massively influenced by my negative opinion of the trade. 

Having said that, I have never thought of him as a #1 offensive option. And I wasn't paying attention enough to even know what his injury was. I can feel for the human, AD, who actually seems like a cool guy and who I'm sure doesn't actually want to be injured. But I already didn't have much patience for the idea that we could be really good with AD as our best player, and the idea that Nico wanted to play all bigs. So, tuning in to some highlights and seeing a fat AD, standing flat footed, with a hand up, 10 feet away from a shooter was just too much. 

All that's over now!!! 

My new stance is "AD IS AWESEOME! YOUR TEAM NEEDS HIM, NBA GM!"
