I'm not trying to ever put words in your mouth. But you do keep saying number 1 in essence at times, and when I speak against that, I get a reply like this last one.
I believe trades WILL happen, and the roster WILL inevitably evolve. But I don't believe in giving away useful, used, talented players just to thin the roster. Ever. And even more so when your main guys cant stay healthy (which means you really are NOT as deep right now as you think you are.)
I think we're having miscommunication on point 1, then.
I want them to look for a consolidation trade that sends multiple strong backup/low end starter types in exchange for one player (the best player in the deal) that can make an impact in an area of need. I don't think that suggestion equates to "giving good players away" or "making a trade just to dump a body." I want them to prioritize their top 6 (which matters most, obviously), then their top 9 (which only matters if your top 6 is good enough, obviously) and THEN additional depth (which only matters if your top 9 is good enough, realistically).
The point you make is a good one: maybe there wasn't a guy out there good enough to justify such a deal this summer. And, I support the idea that IF that was the case, they're smart to avoid the risk of a deal we'd regret soon as things change, made JUST in the name of roster balance. But, that does not change (for me) the idea that the roster isn't balanced. I don't like the way the roster is set up right now, while I do like the amount of good players they have. It's just that simple. Talking about the hope and desire for an opportunity to accomplish what I'm suggesting is not the same as demanding it be done by the time I finish writing this sentence. And, it bears mentioning that we don't know about everything that's out there right now. Is there a player not widely reported as available who fits the bill? I just hope they're looking, and I hope they're looking in the right places for the right type of player. I will not be a believer in this team until they accomplish something similar to what I'm suggesting (at least until I see it play out differently on the court than I expect).
You mentioned SGA, young Curry, etc. Those are generationally gifted superstars. I agree about the type of player they should be targeting, but they're not getting a player of that level for Gafford and/or PJW, so while we can disagree case-by-case on whether a trade makes sense, I don't think that's a reasonable barrier to expect an idea must clear in order to warrant consideration.
