Man, I love depth. All for it, if the depth is backing up a team that works.
I do agree with Gump that waiting for the right trade is probably smarter than just making the best one currently available, but the problem as I see it is that his concerns about how movable AD could be down the line are just as true (albeit on a smaller scale) for Gafford and PJW. If the team is healthy, I think we're about to find out that one or both of them don't get nearly as much time as they want. This could create all sorts of problems for the team. Plus, what if Gafford slows down even more?? I actually like his contract (for the player he is now, at the beginning of it), but it's starting center money. Low-end starter money, but it's more than the MLE. How easy will that be to trade in two years, if he's playing less and there's even more evidence that it doesn't work in the playoffs? There's already enough for me to have moved on, personally.
So, to me (and I could be completely wrong), but the risk isn't limited to acting too quickly. Yes, that's risky, but there's also risk in letting this fester for too long, imo. Acting at just the right time could be key. As I've said before, I'm reasonably ok with the idea of letting the first couple of months play out to see the reality of all this, beyond theory.
