Yep.
I think BKN is the biggest puzzle everyone is waiting on, because they ALSO have cap room they have to use somehow. But every impasse (the 4 RFA's stuck in BKN, CHI, GS, and PHI) has a ripple effect, with teams on the side waiting to see what that might shake loose.
BKN is probably not quite as stuck as it looks, because they have tons of cap space no matter what happens with CT. They know what they are willing to pay CT, so they already know what will be left over. The only surprise they could encounter would be if CT decides to take the QO, in which case their leftover amount doesn't go away, but instead gets even bigger.
Of course, none of that may have any relation to the Mavs at all, for two reasons. One, we can't be sure they are stuck at all. It's possible they are intending all along to move B Will to a 2-way, and merely waiting until camp starts. Or two, it's possible the Mavs already have a deal negotiated with someone else, but that team has other moves they must do first before taking a salary. The Mavs only need about 3M of workable space if selling OMax is their plan, and all that takes is a team with a sliver of leftover MLE money or a small TPE.
I think BKN will just use Cams cap hold (12 mil) and not use cap space to resign him. Cap space calculation doesn't change for them, no matter how much they agree to with him in the end. They have north of 25 mil of cap space even with Cams cap hold. Calculation might change for them, if they are not able to sell their cap space, as they have to spend it before the season starts (not sure about exact date). If they are not able to sell the space, they might offer a different deal to Thomas, imho (perhaps more short term money).
There are now only four teams with full MLE left - Chicago, GSW, Hornets and Washington. Chicago and GSW will most likely lose theirs once they complete Giddey and Kuminga negotiations.
I wonder, which teams (if any) are looking to shed salary.
