I understand it completely from Lillard's side. He's 35, about to miss an entire season with a torn achilles and probably can't believe someone would offer this amount of money. This is the last big contract he's gonna get, and he'd be a fool not to take it. Plus, he's worshiped there, so he'll be accepted with maximum patience on his recovery and even if he's bad when he comes back he'll still be adored.
From Portland's perspective...yeah, as someone else mentioned, ticket sales? Either their GM is awful or he's working for someone who forces him into awful mandates.
