The Mavs need offense. We keep joking about defense wins championships but I'm more worried about the offensive production while Kyrie is out.
In a ~30 mpg starter role, Russell has proven to be an 18 ppg / 7 ast guy before, while shooting 40+% from 3 on good volume.
Of course, he could be a total bust, but worth $5M for the upside.
Edit: In the 2024-25 season, D'Angelo Russell's shooting splits in games where he played 30-39 minutes, based on Basketball-Reference data, were: 44.2% field goal, 40.0% three-point, and 85.7% free throw. His per-game averages in these 11 games were 18.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 7.6 assists, with 32.6 minutes played. These stats suggest he was efficient and impactful with significant playing time, though his defensive contributions were moderate. Data reflects performance across his time with the Lakers and Nets.
