Something to bear in mind...if we are doing a deal where we open up the TP MLE, we don't HAVE to take a point guard with both the draft pick and in free agency. One or the other could be almost any position.
I saw where a SI writer proposed a 3 team that sent Gafford to the Warriors and PJ to Atlanta. Dallas got Moses Moody, Georges Niang, #22 from Atlanta and a protected 2028 from GSW. The Atlanta part doesn't work for me. Moody and a protected first for Gafford? Moody is another Rich Paul guy. It is surprising how little his per minute production has progressed over his four years. His counting stats are flatlined. But, 3 places where he has shown progress...WS (1.3, 1.3, 2.4 and 3.5), Corner 3's (.243, .340, .315 and .435) and the last two years he's become positive On Court (3.3 and 4.8) and On Minus Off (0.7 and 2.2). When you think who he plays for when he's in, that last one is fairly impressive.
Trading arguably our two best role players for Moody is an… adventurous thought by SI
I know you said the ATL part doesn’t work for you, but I’d argue the GSW shouldn’t work for you either.
Moody has been given countless of chances to take a step and he’s flatlined as you’ve said every time. GSW fans are done with him. He can look like a player for 4 games and the revert back to unplayable for the next 10.
A lot like Josh Green in that sense, except he’s not hyper efficient nor is he a solid passer.
I think his advanced stats are inflated due to him playing next to one of the best PGs of all time and Draymond Green, a defensive savant.
Giving up Gafford for that kind of player is just asset mismanagement.
