I think the deal reflects that, and I find it surprising, and that's coming from someone who was defending Holiday on this forum 24 hours ago. I didn't think Bos would have to pay to get off of the deal, but I didn't think they'd get an intriguing young talent AND picks.
If you did (and thought they'd do better even, apparently), kudos!
I'm just armchair GM for my team. I hated the deals purposed here that gave us Jrue and had Gafford going out with us only receiving a FRP if getting pick at all. I wouldn't do those deals, but I'm in the rebuild camp so I want to collect assets. Someone else might think those deals are fine and want to compete with our core which is fair enough. But we aren't Nico or other terrible GMs, so just because our ideas don't come to fruition doesn't mean a lot. Some GMs are better than others and Brad Stevens tends to get good deals. I really don't think Simons is all that intriguing through and I don't suspect he'll last in Boston with his atrocious defense. But, I'm wrong a lot. I wanted McGee* in a Mavs uniform and that was a spectacular failure.
To be fair to me, I wanted McGee on 1yr vet. minimum deal and MBT got into a bidding war with the Bucks. I also don't think Luka ever gave him a fair shake with calling him Joel in their first practices, but I digress.
