Are you guys WATCHING the finals? The two teams left standing have quick, fast ball-handling from guys who can pull up and stick it from anywhere on the court. The Mavs have EVERYTHING else covered, but a team cannot win without that ingredient. Not in 2026, at least.
"quick, fast ball-handling from guys who can pull up and stick it from anywhere on the court. " --- I think the OKC and IND model is far more broad than that. And I don't think Sexton is anywhere close to being that sort of player.
It's imo about players who have length and play BOTH ENDS of the floor and can play in space and push the pace and are aggressive. Frankly, it looks to me like that is what the Mavs ARE looking for, and have some of, instead of some one-dimensional shoot-a-lot guys.
For example, when healthy, Exum is way closer to fitting that mold than Sexton. IMO B Williams too. They looked for those guys in Klay and AD, Gaff and PJW. Flagg certainly qualifies, in a MAJOR way, fwiw.
I agree that sort of player is what they should be chasing, whether in trade, as a FA, or via the draft.
At best, Sexton is a very expensive bandaid to fill a hole. But it's going back to platoon ball. They can do way better imo (by continuing to look for the right players who play BOTH ends of the floor, and develop them to be better at both ends).
