Spurs want Durant
Sixers want to move up to #2 (but why? They have Maxey)
Suns want a lot of draft capital but pieces like Vassell, Barnes and Keldon Johnson don't exactly get them there,
Nets want to trade #19
Mavs DON'T want to trade either PJ or Gafford
Spurs get Kevin Durant, Jared McCain and LAC's 2028 #1 via Philly
Sixers get Anthony Davis
Suns get Paul George, #3, #19 (Nets), #35
Nets get Harrison Barnes and Lakers 2029 1st via Mavs
Mavs get Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and #2
Not sure why this deal makes sense at all from the Mavs perspective, nor does it answer the original points you posed in the beginning.
Sixers don't end up with #2 nor do they get any better given they've sent McCain, George, #3, and a LAC FRP out... and all they get in return is Anthony Davis? This deal raises so many questions just for the 76ers. Does Davis fit next to Embiid? Is Davis any less of an injury risk than George? Is Philly saving any money here given AD is making MORE than George over the next 3 years?
If anything, the reasons why Philly wants #2 is because they want to move on from Maxey and think Harper is a better player. They could be correct. What does Maxey+#3 get you along with #2 in return should be the question.
The Nets in this deal eat an expiring deal for arguably the 3rd best asset in this trade and all they have to do is give up a mid-tier FRP? I think they say yes faster than the speed of light.
Spurs' package for KD makes sense in terms of an asset perspective. Sochan, Vassell, Barnes, and #2 seems like a realistic basis for such a KD deal.
But the Mavs side of this.. I mean I don't know man. Let's just assume the Mavs DO make out with the #2 pick for AD. At that point, why are we keeping all of our best win now guys? Should we not just totally and entirely rebuild around Flagg+Harper? Why keep Kyrie?
I just think this team, as is, needs to be given a shot. What if AD+Flagg are a crazy good duo? What if Flagg+Kyrie+AD work out and are a great core for at least 3 years?
