I have been thinking how this Mavs team can become a contender again. I think the league is really deep right now (espcially in the West). The current Mavs team also have some weird fitting parts and finding a perfect fit will be challenging. I have also had trouble finding a prototype they can compare to.
Today I was thinking what about the 2009 and 2010 Lakers. Obviously the Mavs don't have Kobe and it is tough to win without a top 7-8 player in the league. Could Kyrie give you 75-80 percent of what Kobe did? If you look at the rest of the Lakers roster, they were a big physical team. One without a real point guard either. Derek Fisher started at point. He was a smaller guard but was strong and physical. Gasol played PF. could AD match that production? Bynum was the starter. Ron Artest for one of those championships was a starter. I believe Trevor Ariza was on the other championship. They got bigger with Lamar Odom as the 6th man. I just wonder if that will be the prototype Nico looks to mimic. They don't have a Kobe but you could argue they have a deeper team than that Laker team.
The NBA has changed since this championship and maybe playing without elite floor spacing is a losing battle, but just got me thinking.
