It wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Mavs to trade AD for a younger player and picks (including a mid first rounder this year), deal Gaff and PJ if you can get at least a first (or maybe someone like Dalton) for each and shed future salary, let Kyrie walk, give Flagg an intro year where he’s not overplayed and maybe even shut him down at the 3/4 mark of the season. You definitely have to dump Klay as well (what a disaster of a signing that turned out to be, talk about an amateur mistake). It would be a quick bottom out to take advantage of the last pick you control to build the next generation of the team. You’d come out of it with plenty of future ammo and salary flexibility to find a second star and the requisite supporting pieces. You’d start the rebuild with Flagg, DLive, Max, and whatever young player AD returns, and maybe a couple of other young assets from the trades, so you should go into the 2026-27 season, after another high draft pick and a free agent acquisition with a really good young roster. The secret is just to be bad next year and get rid of Nico. The team could be set for a decade and might even be able to challenge OKC, who unfortunately look like NBA champs for as far as the eye can see.
Gaff for Vincent and Knecht is the way to start the dominos falling.
