Potential scenarios to get DAL under the 2nd apron on draft night:
BKN receives: Jaden Hardy
DAL receives: pick No. 27
> rookie scale for pick 27 is $2.3M which would net DAL to roughly $240K below the 2nd apron and open up the ability to aggregate players in a trade.
> BKN has an abundance of picks in this draft (8, 19, 26, 27, 36), D-Lo/Cam Thomas/De’Anthony Melton are all free agents this summer, and BKN originally tried to get Hardy included in the Kyrie deal. With only 9 players on their roster going into next season and only 2 of them being guards, there would be plenty of minutes for Hardy to take his game to the next level at a very low hit to the books.
DET receives: Jaden Hardy
DAL receives: pick No. 37, MIL 2027 2nd
> DET has the most cap space this summer and after their leap this past season, I suspect they will be looking to retain some of their vets and look to round out their roster around Cade. DET also has lots of young guys still looking to permanently solidify their spot in the rotation leaving little to no consistent minutes available for a current year 2nd round pick. Hardy is someone who has shot-creation skills, a need on the Piston’s bench.
> Also worth noting that Dennis Schroeder, Malik Beasley, and Tim Hardaway Jr. are all free agents this summer leaving Cade, Ivey, and Sasser as the only guards remaining. Hardy’s flat $6M salary over the next 3 years (team option in year 3) would be an inexpensive, low-risk addition to DET financial picture.
