we need to fire the GM still if you ask me.
Cooper is a rookie and has proven nothing yet I have every faith in his being able to perform as admirably as he is expected to but you always need to prepare for the worst and you never trade off value just because you assume you have a decent enough replacement.
Building the roster with what we have and know will be there for us on day one I say this is what we need to put out there.
I would add at least 1 PG that is flexible in their ability to also play SG.
Irving __________ Williams Cooper Hardy Naji
Klay Max Hardy
Cooper PJ Naji
AD PJ Kai OMax or Edwards
Lively Gafford AD Brown Kai
In my opnion you do not resign Exum and Din
You trade Powell and Martin for a PG or you trade for picks and draft one if that looks more sensible.
If I add in anyone else to the list of guys we trade for an asset it is Naji because he lacks a decent 3 pointer and has decent enough value we may get something decent back. Edwards and Omax are lower cost options to replace him and Martin. I think Omax is making enough progress to justify his being kept but if need be to close a deal he can be included as well and we certainly counted on Edwards enough last year to know what he can do on defense plus he was a 40% 3 point threat but his rights may be of value in trades as well. I hope we can add some second round talent in this draft because the next few years may be without the level of talent this draft has. Some say trade Hardy but if he develops elsewhere that could come back to haunt us. I see his as a long range assassin that has the ability to get hot and those are worth keeping but if a good deal come along yes you move him.
There will be players not taken in the draft that we can sign as 2 way contract guys but if we can add a pick or 2 through trade I hope the mavs avail themselves. I pray injuries do not force us to use our 2 way signees but with our luck we need to develop as much talent as possible. AD is an inury waiting to happen so PJ is a needed element at PF. Gafford and Lively may take a while to recover their game more fully. Last years surprise additions Moses Brown and Kai Jones where able to produce scoring and rebounding so as third stringers they can be counted on in emergencies to hold the line. I say we might as well bring them on or if a pick is acquired whereby we can snag a better rookie in this years draft then that is also an option for the management I would advise them to explore. Exum and Din were able to perform when counted on and they did ok but the teams new expectations suggest we take another path. It was fun and it was real but it wasn't real fun because no ring was won.
