He‘s still only 26 years old, a STUD defender, athletic and just gave us 14 ppg while shoting 38% from three. That is a building block to me and someone I would try to keep around for a long time instead of moving on from him. I don‘t see any reason to believe he can not be effective in this role for another 5-7 years. The roster is all over the place in terms of ‚fit’ but there are a plenty of guys I‘d be willing to move on from ahead of him.
My pipe dream is Gafford to the Lakers for the obscene Mark Williams trade package or at least a decent chunk of that. That way you should be able to open up some money for Flagg and get closer to being a player in the FA PG market while also recouping some assets.
I‘d be very interested in CP3 in a scenario like that.
That is all true. I think most like PJ but it is a delicate balance if you want to keep him. His best position is being played by our highest paid player (AD). He was a starter for a finals team. I doubt he would be ok not starting. Probably less ok not finishing games (although maybe he would). The Mavs view Lively as a core building block. PJ will also be an upcoming free agent and is probably a 25 million dollar per year player. Maybe more.
I am sure Nico and the Mavs want PJ here. Fit and PJ wants may make that a not an easy task.
