For all the fans who say that Silver had no power to do anything, unlike NO when Stern had taken charge of the franchise, all I will say is this. Let’s say Silver really didn’t know. If the situation was reversed and Silver saw a trade proposal come through to inexplicably trade a 25 year old generational star from the Lakers to the Mavs for pennies on the dollar, he would be calling all the NBA lawyers for an immediate midnight conference call figuring out a way to block it temporarily until he could kill it permanently.
