You need to shoot around 50% on threes match that 77% 2pt rate. Let’s say AD is a 55% 2pt shooter cause he’s bound to operate anywhere within the FT line at the rim. That means he’d need to hit right at 40% of 3s to match that 2pt production.

And he’s nowhere near close that. Last 6 years he’s a 25% 3pt shooter. He had 2 career years in New Orleans where he hovered around 33%. He’s awful at shooting it from range.

Definitely makes sense to shoot from places on the floor where you’re most efficient.

If AD really can have a TS% of 70% in the paint. Even if he could hit 45% on threes, he shouldn’t.
