From a long term budget standpoint, I don't think we want to be paying any more than 15 mil for the combined backup 4 and 5 spot.  Right now that is Gafford and Omax.  Would we be better off with Olynyk playing both roles?  Would you rather have Olynyk than Gafford next season?  Personally, I would rather spend the rest of the season seeing what we have in Omax and make a decision in the offseason.

No, I am team Gafford.  With Maxi's uneven play and now surgery, I am just not sure you can count on him.  I don't think Omax is ready for big playoff minutes.   And if PJ gets dinged that is even more concerning.

So what I am saying if I would look for a comparable salary and player to Maxi who is now healthy, Olynyk fits this role.  He also is an expiring this summer (team option) which is the same as Maxi.  So you can look for the same type of moves with contract and first this summer.   In fact, you may get more interest in Olynyk than Maxi.   Even if he is outside the main rotation, at least I know I have a skilled veteran who can play when needed.
