Hosted a watch party, so I missed a lot and had to rewatch today to get a full perspective. Can’t record the games because I watch on Max (BR Sports) since Fubo doesn’t carry TNT. If you find yourselves wanting a full re play, you might enjoy trying to WATCH the RE PLAY on a NET rather than a dot com.
Some observations I’m excited about:
1. Spurs had no success trying to go at Luka after switches.
2. I noticed zero instances of Mavs defenders failing to close out on 3-point shooters other than Sochan (spelling?), who was obviously left open more or less intentionally. (Maybe he should try shooting 3s one-handed?)
3. PJ, then Maxi, then Lively proved very, very well equipped to defend Wemby. Enough length to bother him yet quick enough laterally to prevent drives. Not sure there’s another team that presents as difficult a test for the youngster.
4. Speaking of Lively, I think forced travels should be a new stat to monitor for the kid. I can recall at least 2 of em, out of maybe 3 travels of any sort called all game?
5. I’ve got a screen shot (that I can’t figure out how to share here) of Luka, Kyrie, and Klay picking up full court after a timeout despite a 14-point lead in the 3rd. Looks like playoff intensity on D might be here to stay if those 3 are buying in this early in the new season.
6. If Klay and Hardy are both shooting “can’t leave em” percentages from deep, this team will present a whole nother challenge to defenses around the league. At least for today, those new signings look among the best bargains in the league.
