Something difficult will happen but we could just rely on knowing we do have a great top 8-9 this year and that we can adapt as we did last year. Luka or Kyrie by themselves can keep us afloat. I also like some of our young depth we could go to for minutes in a pinch.
- Dinwiddie looks borderline unplayable.
- Morris and Powell are on roster for towel-waving. (I know Powell will get minutes, but at this point in his career, should he?)
- Exum is out for several months.
- Maxi is his could-be-available-but-often-not self.
That leaves
Luka
Kyrie
Lively
Klay
PJ
Marshall
Grimes
Gafford
Hardy
OMax
...and we all know how questionable those last two are for providing quality minutes.
(Note: I'm not as worried as some about "back-up PG" - Luka or Kyrie should always be on the floor, and either one is elite at the PG position - but if one of those goes down for a time, and they always do, we're cooked)
(Note 2: the upside to this point is that I drool thinking of how good our front 8 are - definitely top five in the league. But how often in the first three months will all 8 of them be available?)
Throw Klay's mentioned needs-two-months-to-sort-out-his-shot percentages, and the first two months of the season could be pretty bumpy. Not saying Nico didn't have a great offseason, just not as optimistic as I was prior to pre-season (and the Exum injury).
