Not sure I understand with Minny. I like Dante but he played his best ball with Jalen. Randle is good but he will also look for a big payday. Plus, how long will Gobert continue his strong play? It does get them out of the potential bad KAT contract though. I guess the talent in the trade is pretty neutral, but I think I would push the wolves back a tad in the west.
So I like the trade for the Knicks…in theory
After thinking more about this, I am in the same spot. I think the fit, in theory, fits much better for NYK.
Randle was an effective expiring contract who is going to look for an ALL NBA level contract. He is now an odd fit in NY. Clearly still good, but do you play him at small ball 5 at times and maybe closing games. That just seems odd. NYK signing him to a big contract also didn't seem like the best fit.
Donte was great last year, but look at their roster now. His minutes appear to be going elsewhere. Plus, he is going to be looking for a new contract soon. He probably wants a contract that reflects his play from last year, not one where he is playing 24 minutes a night off the bench which may have been his role this year.
On the other hand, The Wolves get off a scary looking contract. KAT always concerned me with injuries watching him run. He is not uncoordinated but just appears so. Sort of a lumbering runner. Sort of concerning as he is approaching 30.
I do wonder if KAT can transition his role like KP did. Is he ready for that? Moving from a guy who thought he was a legit co-star to a role where he is sometimes the 5th best player and sometimes the second? But a guy who could be the wild card for a team being good vs great.
