Given that there was no concrete rumors on Hayward you're probably right that he wasn't offered anything and he made the choice to retire.
Yeah, I mean I'm a little surprised by this turn, too, but given how he and his wife were both publicly bashing OKC for not allowing him a role in the playoffs, I got the sense that they think he still has something to offer.
But also, I can see how, if he was borderline on the outs with the league already, that type of public complaining could be the final turnoff for any teams who might have otherwise been a little interested.
I have very little trouble imagining that the phone didn't ring much.
Then again, maybe he was offered only minimums and was delusional enough to think he's above that, or just valued his time/body more than that amount of money. After all, he is very wealthy.
