I get the three pointer...and it is a good point. From what I watched though, the free throws are a big advantage too. That is why I think if you can have guys who can get to the rim you are probably getting a high percentage shot and/or a free throw.
The USA team had Jimmer who is a an elite shooter, but limited in other top level skills. The rest of the team seemed odd though. I didn't recognize any of the names but just seemed sort of average without an elite skill.
