He's skeptical about Grimes, based on the low value he seems to have these days. As in, maybe he's not as good as we think. I was just brainstorming other reasons Detroit might have had to give him away (other than stupidity). Maybe he just didn't like it there, they didn't like him, and it was best for all involved to move him along? Happens more than we realize, I bet.

Agents have a lot of power. Lindsey knew the Mavs interest in Grimes at the TDL. All of these relationships matter. Detroit got 3 SRP’s, will continue to tank, and sell an expiring Tim for even more at the TDL. Win-Win-Win for players/agents/GM’s.
