It´s not that I don´t think Shamet doesn´t have a useful skillset, but you can´t have 50% of the roster be catch and shoot SGs, while Luka and Kyrie kill themselves. Fatigue leads to injuries, injuries lead to increased minutes for Luka or Kyrie, which leads to more injuries. I think a DSJ could easily play significant minutes during the regular season. Our need for dribble creation is that big.
Hear me out... A Shamet signing could be a signal from the FO that they are all in on revamping the offense and adding in a bunch more movement in it. Shamet is a movement shooter, though not on the same level as Klay.
Getting Shamet basically would let the Mavs continue playing a "Klay-lite" player if they wanted to while Klay is on the bench.
Could also be good Hardy insurance.
I don't think he's an actual target, given no one but one account tweeted the Mavs were going to go after Shamet. But I can rationalize the thinking if they are targeting him.
