Perhaps. This Marshall deal leaves them right at or just below the tax line. I doubt that's a coincidence.

I have the Mavs at about ~174mil team roster currently after the Marshall+Grimes contracts added. 

Tax line is 170,814,000

Mavs are quite over the line right now.


Edit: My bad I factored in an extra vet min contract, on top of a typo. Mavs roster salary is actually ~170 right now. Right at the tax line.
