The Lakers have a $12.9 million MLE if Lebron takes a pay cut.
If he doesn’t want to come to Dallas for more money than LA, I don’t want him. A three year deal starting at $16 million will also get him more total money than the $48 million Golden State offered him.
Yes the THJ trade, if done alone, generates a 16,193,183 TPE to Dallas.
But if they pivot from that to a trade for Klay with nothing outgoing, they can only pay about 13.9 in starting salary to Klay, not 16.2, as they are further limited by the requirement to stay under the Apron.
If they want to pay Klay more than that, and sign DJJ too with all or most of the big MLE, that takes sending out added salary (Green) and probably also combine the 2 trades (w DET and w GS) into 1.
The DET trade has not happened yet, since it cannot be executed until trades are able to be done in the next NBA year on July 6, and on agreed-but-waiting trades, teams generally cooperate to allow other side deals to be added, as long as their own initial deal is still the same (or they agree to revise what it was going to be).
