Another way of looking at it is he had one of the worst defensive ratings on the team for the season and got benched on a team desperately trying to make the playoffs. I’m going to miss having an elite defense.

This is the only way to look at it. The Mav’s title window closes if they build around Luka, Kyrie, and Klay — two NBA seniors and one slow footed offensive savant, none of whom can defend. The Mavs need athletic wings, period. This team would be worse than the Warriors were this year. The warriors know what they’re doing going with younger players who can defend, particularly with the league’s new emphasis on trying to hold down scoring and reward physical defense.
