I will go another route…
Mavs are possibly feeding Stein the Klay rumors in order to get Portland off their ask for Grant.  Right now the price match is Green, Maxi, and Powell.
So the cost is in the picks,
OR rookie non-guaranteed salary Dallas would need in return to keep from going over the hard cap due to salary holds.
OR Portland doesn’t want to take all 4 ballast pieces, and Dallas is feigning interest in options.

I don't know, man. I'd be fine with that, obviously, and might even prefer it. But these rumors that were easily dismissed hours ago are starting to be taken more seriously by a lot of people. 

Windhorst was making a point earlier on one of those stupid shows that GSW didn't seem to care about Klay and LAC didn't seem to care about Paul George. The implication was that something was already done with George going to GS, though he didn't say it. I think SH's dot-connecting, that this knowledge has motivated Klay to get serious about choosing his next gig, makes all the sense in the world, as does the idea that GS moved Chris Paul's date back in an effort to try to help him land somewhere better than Orlando. They kind of owe him that much, right? 

I'm starting to be able to see it.
