I think we differ on what is "insanely" expensive in today's NBA. I thought at the time of Brunson's FA that a 25 mil AAV contract would be crippling to a team for a high quality role player (lets forget about the *actual* production JB is doing right now). I've since been schooled.
Today his 24mil salary is less than 18% of the overall cap. It is a fantastic deal. And that cap is going to increase year over year by 10% till at least 2028 where it's projected to be about 180mil conservatively after the TV contract has kicked in for a bit (and most likely 2 new teams as well bringing in revenue).
By then, in Klay's last year, his 25 mil salary will be 13% of the cap overall. The MLE will be starting at 16-18 mil. That 13% is akin to PJ Washington's deal right now which is right around 11%.
In short, no, Klay signing for a 4 year/92 mil deal isn't outlandish. And will most probably be very good value as long as he remains healthy.
