Detroit is in the business of gathering as many assets as possible. THJ + pick(s) now and then a few months later trading his expiring at the TDL for more pick(s) isn’t a bad deal.
IF Timmy has the start he did last year a contender could very easily give up something substantial at the TDL. Or teams just wanting to get off extra money. He most definitely will be a positive asset at the TDL regardless, how much so varies.
The alternative, if we’re simply using Grimes as a return instead of Tim as a straight salary dump… Does Detroit see Grimes in their long term plans? He’ll be extension eligible this year and the previous coach/GM that accepted him as the return in a trade for Bogdanovic is no longer employed by the Pistons. What can the new GM get for Grimes at the moment that better aligns with their vision?
Is getting Tim and pick(s) plus X and pick(s) at the TDL a good use of cap space and opportunity?
