Nba trade rumors just published their mavs offseason overview

Their plan is to trade THJ to Charlotte for Cody Martin ($8.1 million) . Use those savings to sign Jones Jr.

 

Martin's 25/26 contract is NG.   $8.1mm obviously isn't a trade match.  But, Charlotte has space.  So, we'd be asking them to eat up about $8mm of that space.  I'm not sure this costs much, if anything.  Charlotte needs O.  In fact, maybe they pay us something.

Martin's contract is small enough that you could keep him and get DJJ a starting number around $10mm-$11mm and still have a cushion.  Or, like we discussed regarding Shamet, you could stretch-waive his one guaranteed year and be able to afford a BAE player instead of keeping Martin.

I think it is interesting the way this one and the Shamet rumor work out financially.  It is splashier to talk about Grant and Avdija and Tobias and such.  But these kind of money saving deals get "Priority 1A and 1B" done.  Then you figure out any other opportunity as it presents itself.
