The rule is -- Assuming they are over Apron 2 (which would be the case if they re-sign Harden to an expected amount), they can't aggregate to get a bigger salary player back.

Thanks! I still think it would be practically difficult to make roster space for a legal trade like the one you laid out. I'm with you, and won't spend even a minute dreaming about George in Dallas.
