Both of your points are true.

But it also could be reasoned that if just 1 other guy could reliably score off the bench the Mavs would be more competitive. Just another threat. 

Boston is a very good team. I don't think there's a single team in the NBA that could've beat them. But the Mavs had a chance if they didn't go ice cold.

Pacers didn't have iso scorers like Luka or Kyrie and scored at will. Kidd deserves all the credit in the world for the defense. But on offense it really feels like the Mavs have no scheme.
