Wolves didn't offer him the max. They offered him a sub-max deal for some reason.

I might have used a different phrase than "passing on him" if trying to describe an offer to pay him $107 million.

The Rockets already went public to say they were out. There will be some other teams in the mix because he is a hot commodity. I could see a random team getting in there.
As for the Wolves we know they want D.Lo but there is no reason to believe GSW wants to trade him. The Mavs have all kinds of options. My thought is still that Wright would be the key piece in a deal for Covington.
I do agree with all of this. It almost feels to me as if waiting until summer is a bigger competitor than another team to being the third team in a deal that gets Russell to Minnesota.
There are certain musts to any deal. Neither team will want to be a taxpayer after the deal (especially GS which needs a break from repeater status). Dieng HAS to be in the deal for matching purposes. GS doesn't want Dieng, so a third team will be needed. I happen to think it will take both Culver and Roco for talent matching purposes to get GS to move. Put all of that together and you have to have a third team that has the right sized expiring contract (or space or a TPE) and has to be willing to take on Dieng. They will want to be paid for said kindness. That either means more players have to be added to the deal, or they have to have something roughly equivalent to either Covington or Culver that is satisfactory to GS.
So, if you are Dallas, would you rather have Roco or Culver or Wright and a high #2? It appears many here value the immediacy of what Roco brings. I can construct such a deal that sends Culver and any number of Mav's to GS and brings RoCo along with Dieng to Dallas and keeps everyone under the LT (and did the other night in a different thread). I think I might choose to take Culver if I were Dallas. He's less of a sure thing than Covington, but I think has more upside. It certainly wouldn't hurt my feelings if they went the RoCo + Dieng route.
