This is a very logical take. Doesn’t mean it’s correct. But it makes a lot of sense.
Another logical theory might be that Nico gave Kidd too much input and shut that down after the Great McGee MiStake. If I have the timeline right, that would include the Kyrie acquisition as part of the new, improved decisionmaking.
