Who has the most to gain/lose during the rest of the season?
#25
Posters complaining about Josh Green again in the Boston game thread:

- overrated defense
- no shows against good defenses

I dont think you can evaluate the Mavs until its Playoffs...too many coaching questions marks with lineups...

Couple of questions though...

1) Is Josh Green's defense questionable?

He seems to move laterally very well and have decent anticipation...but I dont know how good or average his defense really is from a coach perspective. It seems like he has the tools to play smothering defense...and when he does, gets a lot of fouls called on him when a ball carrier drives. Is he capable of stout defense without fouls?

2) Are Josh Green's hustle plays enough?

Green seems to be elite at going after loose balls, running down a ball carrier and popping ball loose from behind in transition, trying at rebounds. These hustle plays is where Josh shines and makes his impact. Is it enough?

3) Is the lack of offensive skill other than passing and 3 ball detrimental to Playoff basketball?

The kid has some flaws. Bad dribbling, can only dribble with his right, lack of creating separation, cant finish at the rim one on one very good due to lack of plan and creativity when driving, timid shooting anything not wide open.

4) What is your timeframe on Green to turn into a solid two-way and not a specialist?

I want to overlook age, Luka timeline and focus on overall skill and if Josh is capable of turning into a solid two-way in regards to his flaws.

5) Is Josh's contract negative, neutral or value?

I have read mixed signals on this around here. Based on the current player...is this a good or bad contract compared to what you can get at the price vet wise? I get Josh is young and that plays into things compared to a player that might be better but is 30.

Im kinda getting tired of the up and down with THJ and Green posts around here. Everyone knows I am ready to move on from THJ due to inconsistency. Green is my favorite roll player to watch...but it seems like there is something lacking. I dont know if its the system or if its him or a combo. This isnt an overreaction to the Boston game either. Boston looks hard to beat...but again...there was weird coaching decisions that make it hard to evaluate the team against top level teams....so we have to wait until playoffs. But...I am tired of wasting Luka years and THJ and Green and maybe even OMax seem like decent trading chips if you find a player you like at 3/4 that is an upgrade that does things on both ends of the floor consistently. Is it even worth talking about with Green or not?

Looks like Mavs are going to be right on the PJ Washington deal. Just a solid two-way player. Nothing awesome...but a basketball player that does things on both ends of the court satisfactorily. Im thinking I want another player like that instead of two guys with flaws that are specialists. THJ and Green are the two guys this board is a roller coaster on.
