Second, he gets tired and jacking up a 3 is easier than driving constantly.

I think he is still trying to figure it all out and he'll jack up a 3 because he's been known for and done that in his past, unstructured life. Still a work in progress, but he's making progress! He is still 24 with only 3 1/2 (+ the 1/4 of this year) years of experience.
